Excited for this game. I'm a Cameron Crazie first (class of 2010!) BUT I've lived in Miami all my life (minus college) and have been a season ticket holder at UM for almost 10 years now and I have got to say - the Canes are looking WAAAAAY better this year than in recent years. Wednesday's 2OT thriller against Maryland just speaks immensely to the talents of the team and the guidance of Coach L. Tomorrow should be good!

GO DUKE! (especially since I'll be at a Super Bowl party full of Canes...)

I can't really understand why very few students show up to women's games. In my spare time I serve as one of the women's basketball beat writers for The Chronicle and have spent a considerable amount of time around the team. They are a fantastic basketball team, and hopefully more people around campus start to realize that. Hopefully their upcoming slate of marquee games helps- their game against UConn along with their upcoming game against Carolina next Monday are required games for tenting.

Enjoying the blog! I was at Duke from '86-90 and the only tents were set up the night before the Holes game.

My question/request:

What's up with NO students going to the women's games? We need y'all! Please come and cheer on the team at tomorrow's (Monday 1/30), the Holes on 2/6, and Miami 2/4. 'Kay?

UNC's problems are simple,no fast scoring pg to run the break,no "REAL" stud in the post.Marshall is a slow down halfcourt pg that dosen't fit UNC's system. Simply put,the type of players they need are not there as in the past 2 Title runs. Out!

I'm a huge fan of the time-shifting chart. Fascinating to track players' trends in such a visually simple and relevant way. Keep up the great work, guys.

Hey Tripp, thanks for your comment. This is a similar situation to the '08-'09 PG situation.

When Paulus proved ineffective defensively (and also at times offensively) the staff went to Nolan. He wasn't ready to play PG, so we went to E-mail, who had proved himself as a defensive ball hawker. E.g. the home game against Wake Forest when he got several steals at the beginning of the game guarding Jeff Teague.

I think this is a little different considering that Quinn Cook is not a strong defender right now. If he is substituted as starter for Curry and/or Thornton, it will be for his offensive creativity and passing ability. I noted in the article that Quinn is not the best outside shooter right now. He's 6 for 19 from three point range on the year. If he can pick his spots a little better and focus on distributing and finishing in the lane instead of being an outside shooter, I think he can earn the starting job. It's really up to him.

Thornton has proven a solid outside shooter, on the other hand. He has solid form and can knock down the open 3. He's not a creator, though, and is not really a passing PG either. Sort of stuck somewhere in between those roles right now. Look for him to get better and develop into some solid role; he'll be a 4 year guy.

Curry is best off the ball. He can create jump shots for himself better than anyone else on the team, and knocks down 15 footers with great consistency. But he's not a PG, as I noted in the article.

Thanks for reading. Quinn Cook has my tentative vote to move into the starting PG role right now.

That lineup has been abandoned by the staff, and FSU is now utilizing a 3-guard lineup. So far White has come off the bench with Dulkys starting in his place, though I won't be surprised to see Miller replace Dulkys early in the ACC season.

didnt read the entire write-up, but i dont think you mentioned it. are we about so revisit what happened in '08-'09 with the PG situation? back then first it was greg paulus, then nolan smith, then elliot williams. are we in the midst of seeing a curry, thornton, and cook point guard saga?
